How It Works

The Idea

Every minute spent procrastinating has an opportunity cost; if you could be earning at your hourly rate, that time has a real dollar value. This calculator turns wasted minutes into money so the habit is easier to see.

The Formula

Cost = (Minutes ÷ 60) × Hourly Rate

The daily cost is then projected across a week, a month, and a year to show the long-term impact:

  • Daily cost = daily minutes ÷ 60 × hourly rate
  • Weekly cost = daily cost × 7
  • Monthly cost = daily cost × 30.44 (average month length)
  • Yearly cost = daily cost × 365
Using the Activities Table
  1. Click Load Common Presets to start with typical time-wasters, or Add Activity for your own.
  2. Adjust the estimated minutes per day for each activity.
  3. Click Use Total as Daily Time to feed the sum into the calculator, then recalculate.
A Note on Rest

Not all downtime is wasted; genuine rest and breaks make you more productive. Use this tool to spot mindless time drains, not to guilt yourself out of every pause.

Tip: All calculations happen in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
